KSTP is reporting that the proposal and efforts to close campus diversity offices in UW campuses is sparking a battle over racial equity and free speech. According to the report, Republican lawmakers’ proposals are pushing for defunding or altogether ban of DEI offices in higher education, while others want to forbid diversity from being a factor in the hiring or admissions process. The push to ban DEI offices comes after a UW Madison student was posted online hurling racial epithets with no consequence.
