On April 7, 2016, Jeff Storms, along with Saint Paul attorneys Andrew Irlbeck and Paul Applebaum, filed a lawsuit seeking $12,000,000.00 on behalf of a woman who was wrongfully incarcerated for six years due to the misconduct of Saint Paul Police Sgt., Heather Weyker. Hamdi Osman was indicted along with nearly 30 other Somali-Americans on allegations that they were engaged in a sex-trafficking conspiracy. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the trial court’s post-conviction acquittal of three of the alleged co-conspirators, finding that the alleged conspiracy was most likely fictitious. The Court observed that Weyker lied to a grand jury and likely exaggerated and fabricated many of the critical events supporting the supposed conspiracy.
