On February 24, 2016, a Dakota County jury acquitted Eric Newmark’s client accused of possessing 24 counterfeit $100 bills. The single count complaint alleged that the client had reason to know that a $100 bill he passed at a bar was counterfeit, along with 23 other bills he possessed. Newmark argued that his client had no reason to believe the currency was illegitimate. The jury agreed, acquitting him on the felony charge.
